The major tea-growing states are Assam, West Bengal, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also traditional tea-growing states, though to a lesser extent — tea is grown in Kangra and Mandi districts. Tripura is a traditional tea-growing state with about 54 tea estates. Kerala is a major tea producer. However, Andhra Pradesh is not generally known as a tea-producing state. Therefore, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Tripura — three states — are tea producers.
